Climate Change and Sustainability

CREATING THE SOCIAL IMPACT

Now more than ever, businesses must serve all stakeholders—customers, employees, society, and investors—alike. The normal rules of business don’t stop when it comes to sustainability and corporate responsibility. Pragmatic solutions still matter. So does ROI.. At U&U we believe in the power of business and capital to be forces for good. That’s why we make sure that your strategy, operations and customer value proposition don’t simply address sustainability concerns but maximize the opportunities they present
We deliver the Sustainability services through the following

Combating climate change is one of humanity’s defining challenges of the 2020s. U&U Climate Change Centre partners with businesses to help them prepare for a decarbonized world, supporting them as they drive technological and economic transformations and realize competitive advantage in a low-carbon economy.

At U&U we deliver the climate change services through the following

1.  Carbon Accounting

Our Carbon Accounting services include quantifying and reporting your corporate and product footprints in compliance with international standards and best practices. We also develop greenhouse gas inventories on the country, city and community scale. Identify your impact and opportunities for emission reductions as a first step to paving your way on the Sustainability Roadmap

2. Net Zero Experts

Net Zero can be defined as a state where we add no incremental greenhouse gases to the atmosphere – in other words a balance between what we emit and what we remove from the atmosphere via sequestration. However, fundamental to a Net Zero strategy must be significant decarbonization, without which we will fail to meet our great challenge. To align with the IPCC’s 1.5⁰C climate ambition, to limit the impact of climate change, the world needs to reduce net annual greenhouse emissions by at least 40GT by mid-century. At U&U, we have resources and capabilities to guide organizations in their net zero strategy.

In today’s world, it’s no longer enough for businesses to view their social contributions through the lens of traditional corporate social responsibility. Increasingly, they are challenged to do more. That’s why we developed total societal impact.

The circular economy is one of the biggest economic growth opportunities to have been identified for many years. Estimates suggest that the global population will reach close to 9 billion by 2030 – including 3 billion new middle-class consumers. This places unprecedented pressure on natural resources to meet future consumer demand. The circular economy is a redesign of this future, where industrial systems are restorative and regenerative by intention. Nothing that is made in a circular economy becomes waste, moving away from our current linear ‘take-make-dispose’ economy. The circular economy’s potential for innovation, job creation and economic development is huge: estimates indicate a trillion-dollar opportunity

Solutions for Environmental and Energy Challenges

The energy and environment sectors have experienced tremendous worldwide change over the past decade, and the Scenario will continue to alter as new trends in economics, industry behavior, technology, and emissions regulations emerge. These tectonic shifts pose both a significant threat and an opportunity for players in the energy-and-environment industry. To capitalize on these windows of opportunity, our range of services will help you

1. Energy Audit
Energy and water utilities represent a significant part of a building’s operating costs. The primary benefits of conducting an Energy Audit include saving money, improving health benefits and fulfilling social and environmental responsibility. The primary purpose of an Energy Audit is to identify opportunities to save money and conserve energy and water, while reducing the building’s greenhouse gas emissions

2. Energy Management System
ISO 50001 is a certifiable energy management system (EnMS) standard applicable to any organization, large or small, in any sector. ISO 50001 applies to any organization that wishes to: implement and maintain an EnMS to help reduce energy costs (and reduce the impact of rising costs), improve environmental performance, enhance reputation and/or deliver other business benefits; assure itself of its conformance with its energy policy, legal and other requirements and industry good practice measures;Seek certification of its EnMS by an ndependent certification body or self-declare conformance with the standard.

3. Green Buildings -LEED O&M
LEEDv4 (and v4.1) requires design integration, and early intervention for new construction or major renovation projects – introducing best practices in the design, and continuing with these best practices through construction, operation and maintenance. As part of this integration process, U&U works seamlessly with the owner and the design team, offering collaborative, specialized consulting services for construction air quality management, safer building materials, indoor air quality, and O&M policies and programs.

4. Green Business Model – Turning Green to Gold
In the belief that “The Environmental Issue is a Universal Problems that requires Universal Participation,” the U&U has developed a program that is not only concerned for Green Buildings, like LEED. Neither is it solely focused on Green Products, like Green Seal. The focus of a program is e primarily on Green Practices as that best starting point for real progress. Of the three options, Green practices is the easiest and most effective way to develop a Green community. Whether a company rents, leases, or owns their facilities, the Green Business League is the affordable solution that promotes broad participation in an action plan that has a guide to greater environmental compliance as well as broader participation.

As a leader in this program, you need not do it all or be the single agent of change. This is what we call an Authentic Green that allows a company to “Earn, not Buy” their Green credential. As our world matures, the shallow forms of Green participation will become an embarrassment. In light of such a massively important world challenge, Green washing will be a cardinal sin

5. Environment Impact Assessment
Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is an integral part of planning and development. It is a process by which the anticipated effects on the environment of a proposed development are measured to inform the decision making process. The EIA process can often be seen as complex and confusing, particularly for key stakeholders. However, if managed well it offers an opportunity to de-risk development and enhance reputation.

At U&U , we understand the importance of a consent able development and our aim is to achieve a successful consent with the minimum of fuss that maximizes commercial viability.

6. Green Cleaning
U&U is partnering with The Ashkin Group LLC, a professional corporation specialized in consulting and certification services in the area of Green Cleaning; educational services, namely, providing certified courses classes, seminars, workshops in the fields of Green Cleaning and Green Operations & Maintenance

The world relies on sustainable agriculture, resilient supply chains, and the availability of healthy food. U&U works with businesses and foundations, to make the world’s food supply flourish—even in the face of climate-related threats.

An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is a transparent, objective report that communicates what a product is made of and how it impacts the environment across its entire life cycle. A verified EPD can earn your products credits for LEED v4 and other green building rating systems. EPDs satisfy all of the requirements of Product Category Rules (PCR) and follow international standards, including ISO 14044, ISO 14025, and ISO 21930.

1. Product Category Rule (PCR)

The international standard governing EPDs (ISO 14025) requires that certified EPDs be prepared in accordance with PCRs meeting specific criteria. PCRs define the product category, describe the scope of the life cycle assessment (LCA) to be conducted, and identify the types of potential impacts that must be evaluated and reported.

2. LCA Study

The LCA is typically conducted by a recognized neutral third-party, in accordance with international LCA standards (ISO-14040 series). The assessment must, at a minimum, address each environmental or human health impact identified in the PCR.

3. EPD Report

The quality of the resulting EPD is based on the findings of this assessment. It must disclose all information required in ISO 14025 and defined in the PCR, including a description of the study scope, the product, results, and additional environmental information about the product.
